Singapore River

During this learning journey, our group learned more about the history of Singapore, for example, we learnt about the different people who came to Singapore and what they did. Even though it was very hot then, we still persevered in walking around to see the different statues. And the heat also allowed us to sympathise more with the workers who worked there at that time. Overall, this learning journey was a very meaningful one.

It was quite fun as we got to use the AR app, and learnt alot of new things about Singapore’s history, though we had to stand in the heat for quite sometime. ~Athena

Athena:

This learning journey was a fun and enriching one, and I enjoyed this learning journey as there was a guided tour and I learned a lot more about Singapore’s history and culture. Also, we got to go inside the temples and experience for ourselves how it is like. Another new experience is that we got to interview people, and learnt some things about how to interview people better. Even though we had to stand under the sun for quite a while, it was an eye-opening experience as I usually do not pay attention to those small details that makes up our heritage and culture. Also, it is certainly very important to preserve our culture for the generations to come.
Caitlin: i have never actually explored Chinatown before, so this learning journey was a real mind-opener for me. i learnt more about the place’s heritage and culture and we even got to try some of their famous delicacies like the egg tart from Tong Heng, iced coffee and ondeh-ondeh from Nanyang Coffee House and some curry puffs! we also had a hard time interviewing people, as most of them were camera-shy or too busy and rejected our interview, however it was a new experience and i feel really grateful to those who gladly accepted the interview. although the weather was pretty hot and we were really tired from walking for long hours, it was still a fun experience and i would love to go to Chinatown again!
Caroline: I felt that this learning journey was a fun and interesting one. As I have never explored Chinatown on my own, I felt that this was an interesting journey for me. We got to taste traditional snacks and drinks, some of which I have not tried. I found them very tasty and I would definitely try them again in future.
Chan Yan: during today’s journey, I visited places I never really took the time to discover or learn more about the history behind it. However, today I realised that because that place was reclaimed land, it affected for example the temples there (they were made for sailors that just came to land to pray to the gods for a safe journey). During this learning journey, I realised that despite living in Singapore, there is so much of our heritage and culture that I don’t know about and we really should not be afraid to try it and be more incentivised to find out more. We really should take the time and effort to understand our heritage in order to preserve it.
Qiao Li: During this trip to Chinatown, I got to visit many places that I have never ever visited before. In the past I mostly went to Chinatown for the food and have never ever visited any of the more historical or cultural places in Chinatown.
<my most memorable one was probably the visit to the Buddha tooth relic temple. The interior had really intricate designs that were gold in colour making it very grand.
